Thanks to suggestions and requests from area seniors, two popular floor plans have now been added to Smith Senior Living’s selection of apartments for Smith Village. The two-bedroom Chestnut model and one-bedroom Cypress offer options for seniors seeking a carefree, independent lifestyle. “The new layouts are spacious, sunny and create a lovely and convenient living space,” says Smith Village Marketing Director Bunny Sugarman.

Smith Village in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood offers a peek at the future of senior housing. Each detail of the $65 million continuing care retirement community (CCRC) is designed to meet the changing lifestyle needs of seniors today and tomorrow.
The Chestnut is Ideal for Siblings, Good Friends, Overnight Guests
Opening the front door of the Chestnut, visitors step into an inviting area including a spacious living room, dining room and kitchen. The easy flow of the rooms allows for maximum living space in the 1,030 square foot home.
Two complete bedroom suites make the Chestnut unique. “We’ve found that this model is perfect for siblings or friends who want to live together and especially for those who have frequent overnight guests,” says Sugarman.
In the Chestnut, the master bedroom suite includes an 11’6” by 14’ 4” room, plus an enormous walk-in closet and large bathroom. The second bedroom is 10’6” x 11’ and also features a large closet and a near-by bathroom with a bathtub. “The Chestnut has already been very popular because of its size,” says Sugarman. “There is ample room for entertaining, storage, and overnight visitors. A few who have reserved this apartment have already decided to use the extra bedroom as an office or for space to enjoy hobbies like painting or scrap-booking.”
The Cypress Offers Ample Room for Hobby Area, Storage
The second new model is the 1,007 square foot Cypress. One of the largest one-bedroom models at Smith Village, the Cypress includes a master suite with walk-in closet, a full bath and a handy den.
“We’ve really responded to our depositors’ needs with this new model,” says Sugarman. “Many enjoy writing, quilting, music or working on their computers, so we’ve added an extra room for hobbies, more flexible space and increased storage.”
A separate dining area is located between the kitchen and living room, providing ample space for dinner parties. The living room flows into the den, giving the apartment a spacious, open feeling. The Cypress also has a small room off the kitchen that is perfect for shelving, storage, or even as a large extra pantry. Most of the Cypress apartments have windows looking out to the lush green of Kennedy Park right across the street from Smith Village.
“Our floor plans really meet the needs of today’s active seniors,” says Sugarman. “The Cypress and Chestnut models are so well-designed that residents will have plenty of space to enjoy their favorite hobbies and gather with friends and family. We even have one resident who plans to make his den into a fitness area!”

The independent living section of Smith Village features 152 gracious one- and two-bedroom apartments, all with fully equipped kitchens, washers and dryers and individual heating and cooling controls.
A sun-filled atrium lights the way to Smith Village Commons, where seniors can enjoy formal dining, a casual café and a private dining room to entertain guests. A day spa and salon, arts and crafts studio, state-of-the-art fitness center, cocktail lounge, computer lab and business suite, theater and library offer great social options.
