manager, he is in charge of overseeing every aspect of the construction
process including design, construction, financing and the acquisition of
furniture, fixtures and equipment.A professional manager for his entire professional life, Mr. Fitch brings
a lifetime of experience of managing in a changing business environment.

Chief Executive Officer Michael A. Flynn is a professional whose experience and vision make him the ideal leader of Smith Senior Living during this time of growth and change. His career includes leadership positions in personnel and human resources, facilities administration, marketing and systems development.Flynn leads the executive management team and supports the work of executive directors for each Smith-sponsored community. He and the Board of Directors share a strategic vision for Smith Senior Living and the role of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) in the lives of seniors today.Flynn was a veteran in the senior living industry even before joining Smith Senior Living as CFO in 2005. For Friendship Village in Schaumburg, Illinois, he had served as the vice president and chief financial officer since 1997 and the director of finance until 1989. Friendship Village is one of the largest retirement communities in the state.An industry leader, Flynn serves on the board of directors and is treasurer for both Health Resource Alliance and the Life Services Network Worker’s Comp Trust. He was recently appointed to the CCRC Cabinet for Life Services Network (the Illinois State Association.)Additionally, he is a past president of the O’Hare Chapter of the Illinois C.P.A. Society. Flynn also worked in the for-profit sector for AEC, Inc. and held positions with Square D Company and Sara Lee Corporation. A certified public accountant, Flynn earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from DePaul University, both in Chicago.

Deborah E. Hart Chief Financial Officer Deborah E. Hart is responsible for managing the overall finances of Smith Senior Living, continuing the best practices for the 80-year old organization as well as instituting new systems that enhance residents’ services. Additionally, she supervises the operations and information technology teams and leads the complex process of bond offerings required for the organization’s rapid growth.Prior to joining Smith Senior Living, Hart was chief financial officer for Montgomery Place, a 100-year old, single-site senior living community with 165 independent living residents and 94 receiving skilled care. Starting in 1996 in Gig Harbor, Washington, Hart worked as an independent consultant to CCRCs, serving the Sisters of Providence and the Franciscan Health System, among others. Prior to that, she was the director of reimbursement for Medicare services at Hill Haven in Tacoma.A certified public accountant, Hart is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). She earned her degree at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. She volunteers with the PACE housing for homeless and the Southwest Interfaith Team (SWIFT) formed after 9/11 by her church, Zion Lutheran, to advocate better understanding.
